Nsg applicant town hall
Contacted school to set general surgery rotation and was told straight up from June-September, are reserved for general surgery people. Is general surgery letter 100% confirmed mandatory? SNS won't change?

I believe their logic for the Gen Surg letter is that everyone has gen surg on 3rd year and can get the letter from that experience

Right, I don't think the requirement is meant as a 4th year gen surg sub-I

But is there any chance SNS will walk back the requirement for a gen surg letter?

It has been awhile since I had general surgery rotation...so it is better and pretty much required for me to do a rotation to get a good letter. This is such an odd requirement. The general surgeon said it himself.

I don’t understand, almost all successful applicants have earned Honors on their Surgery rotation. Why would you be worried about your letter from that clerkship?

I don't know where you got your data "almost all successful applicants have earned Honors on their Surgery rotation". I am worried because 1. it has been a while 2. a good letter needs more than "honor"

Senior resident at top 10 program - red flag if someone did not earn honors on surgery clerkship

Senior resident at another top 10 program here, that's not always the case

+1 Another senior resident at a top 10, our program doesn't weigh grades heavily due to medical schools having different curricular designs

How much do residents/attendings look at our written evaluations from our third year rotations?
