Even if women don't want want a family in my experience every woman I have talked to going into neurosurgery or any other demanding field builds an option in so that they COULD have a family if they wanted. Enough white knight bull
Multiple known sexual assaults!?!?! If this were true and "common knowle4dge", how could they have a program?!? If you have evidence of this, shouldn't YOU come forward?!
Wow! Someone has an ax to grind. I did a sub I and interviewed at UVA. If any of the allegations above are true, they are extremely well hidden. There was no clues of the allegations above and they would be very difficult to hide for a month in speaking to and interacting with everyone around the program. The residents seem to be held in high regard. They do work hard and publish a lot. Charlottesville is a college town and may not be for everyone. They gave good camaraderie. UVA has three women in their training program now and looked like they finished a woman a couple of years ago according to the pictures in the conference room. My advice to any other applicant is do due diligence. I kind of hope that some applicants read this message board and ranked UVA lower so that I have a better chance to match there!
One of the women in the UVA program has a kid and she seems normal and happy to be at UVA. She has no qualms about the program and says Charlottesville is a great place for family.
Pretty sure that like 50% of the residents are married or have kids. Most of them seem to like Charlottesville, but I have heard some of the west coast or NY people in their program don't as much. Not sure about reality, but reputation wise it seems they know all the right people and their chiefs the last few years seem to have all gotten good jobs or fellowships.
This type of thing happens every single year around rank time - people start trash talking programs in the hopes that other people rank them lower, with the idea that they have a better chance of matching there. Its unfortunate really, but comes with the territory of a forum designed around posting anonymously.
To those of you that just put in your rank lists - the wait begins, good luck with the match!
I interviewed at UVA. I can't speak about some of the stuff in this string but I had concerns about attrition and asked every level resident about this during interviews and meals. As far as I could tell, they have not lost any residents in the seven years the current residents have been there. This might have been an issue before. I think UVA is a top program for academic practice. There is not much there to teach you about private practice.
