Ok guys,

This is another one of those "what are my chances"

Step 1: 244
Step 2: haven't taken

peds (pass), OBGYN (high pass), family (honor), surgery (honor)

I have 7 presentations and 1 basic science publication

We do not have a home department.

Please let me know if I have any low to mid tier programs

What area is the basic science publication in? Any nearby neurosurgery programs you can contact? How strong is your med school?

It is in neurology. We have NSG residency in my city, and my medical school is not top 40

If there is a program in the same city, have you reached out to them? Face time with them could be important since you don’t have a home program. Any elective time left to do a rotation with their program?

Sorry meant to say there is no residency. However, I am currently doing an elective with neurosurgeons at our local hospital.

No one can tell you 100% unfortunately. What are your options and how committed are you to neurosurgery?

Would recommend aiming for low/mid tier programs only. Rest of app will be important given no home program.

I would say talk to the chair and PD of the program you rotated at to give you an honest opinion. They'll be able to gauge your chances better than anyone on a message board. If you haven't done that yet, do so ASAP.

In 2018, 67 out of 72 matched with a Step 1 in your range. Rest of your app, like aways, will be important. Also aim wisely with the tier of programs you do aways at/apply to. Are you interested in academics?
