Takes a while to fire a resident. There was a history of other substance abuse issues, poor behavior, interactions with the faculty and staff at the institution. To fire a resident you need to build a case, otherwise they might try and sue for wrongful termination.

Does your institution offer these residents help with their issues?  I personally went through it from the other side and felt abandoned.

The situation was more than a one off. If you’re showing up late and drunk, refusing to go to the OR and going home early instead, and getting complaint after complaint filed against by staff in other departments... AND THEN you get a DUI, you’re getting fired. No ifs ands or buts about it. Im sorry you went through that. But if this was any other job on earth , they would encourage you to get help, and if you didn't, you’d be toast.

help is a relative term. residency is hard anywhere you go, but there are lines that shouldn't be crossed.

What kind of announcement are you looking for?? No program is going to announce that their intern got a DUI and is getting fired. They will just slowly take down any evidence of her being in the program. Cant expect much else.
