I'd add that Griffith Harsh is also a candidate. He was high in Stanford's department for many years prior to taking over as chair at UC Davis. Obviously, there are lots of options for Stanford.

Didn't Harsh just start at UC Davis? Seems like bad form to take a chair position then leave it within a year or 2 for another one

Big gamble by WUSTL. Most top programs can attract proven chairs but there are exceptions.
