For someone who just wants to do good surgery and take care of people with a variety of neurosurgical problems, what would be the case for a career in academics?

If you mean avoiding research, teaching, and/or administrative positions, then probably none.

If you want a fairly sub-specialized practice, it's harder (not impossible) to do so without the referral base of a larger academic or privademic center. Remember, spine and endovascular basically subsidize other subspecialties due to their time:RVU ratio.

None. Join large group practice. All advantages of subspecialization, none of the BS. A6izu
