Applying from a top tier medical school with a good amount of research (~60 total publications/abstracts/presentations etc.) and letters (I think), but it's been crickets...People I know have been getting interviews left and right, and I'm trying to not freak out but I'm definitely freaking out. I know it's still early but it's been really discouraging so far Anyone else?
Maybe your home program is planning to match you and indicated so in letters, leading to poor responsiveness elsewhere
Haha love the positive spin you put on this. But is this actually possible? Asking for a friend...
A friend who applied last cycle had interviewers bring this up. "Why am I interviewing you if [home institution] said they're keeping you?] And friend had to carefully explain this wasn't the case– be super careful with your wording...
I'm also noticing a pretty strong geographic bias this year. Ex: I'm only getting interviews near where I attended college and med school even though I really want to relocate across the country. Seems a lot of assumptions are being made without asking us first
Resident here, I feel for you all. It’s difficult to work all these years and have your efforts rest on the whim of this pandemic.
It’s difficult to assess without Sub-Is and letters who would be interested in coming to our program. My advice is this, every program wants to match people who want to be there. It’s an odd year and it calls for a different approach perhaps. Feel free to email or call programs, if you are truly interested, express that and why. In a time where we can’t meet face to face, it would mean a lot.
...did everyone just get an email from Mississippi about checking for an invitation in your spam folder? Got that email but there’s nothing in my spam so...pretty sure I’m just actually not invited.
People need to stop hoarding II...It is unprofessional to schedule 2-3 II on the same day hoping you will be able to switch. No wonder why programs send out more II than spots.

I've heard it's a bit of a faux-pas to do this in the past. Would program directors be more understanding given the circumstances of COVID this year? Thanks for giving us some insight, really appreciate it.

Yes, thanks so much for advice. Can you comment on how programs are releasing interviews this year? All at once and then as cancellations occur or are you still reviewing applications and sending out rolling invites? Thank you, appreciate it a lot.

Sure. I can only speak for my program but we are sending them in batches. We expect some cancellations. It’s a moving target this year because we are also aware that some candidates may hold onto many interviews even though they may not need to.
For us, we love to hear why you want to interview and match here. It would mean a lot to us to hear sincerely why you are interested in us. Your outreach can help us put your applications into perspective.

Better to email the coordinator or PD in this case? I've emailed 2 coordinators as I couldn't find the PD's email and I got the vibe they get a ton of these and just passed it off as "yeah whatever, here's a very neutral, political response, kbye"
IDK if I would put much stock in the response of the PD or coordinator. They've seen what you said and they will think about it. Many of them probably have been instructed to reply with impersonal, short statements as to not offend our NRMP overlords
Either is fine for us. Maybe email PD and Cc coordinator
