Interview Invites 2020-21
(02-15-2021, 08:27 PM)Guest Wrote: Anyone else feeling unsure about their prospects after what felt like solid interview performance but now complete radio silence from programs...

Idk if I had a solid interview performance, but got no phone call/email so far. Does anyone know if match chance is low without these post-interview communications?

Are you talking about calls/emails where the program initiates or a response to your email? I've only gotten the latter

RTM phone call/email (program initates).

Yeah I've gotten nothing from programs outside of responses to my emails, which can mean anything. Feel similar to you (second guessing myself after seemingly receiving good feedback from interviews), but mentors have been reassuring me I'm in a good position. I think most of us will be fine if we completed a decent number of interviews and are generally normal people

I think you are correct--in neurosurgery, I don't think we can over rate being normal.

I've almost exclusively received contact from places where I thought my interviews went poorly. I also think some places don't do a lot of reaching out (some are even open about it). There are probably some applicants that are soaking up a lot of love, but they can only match at one place. I don't care if I'm ranked 10 at my top program as long as I match there.

Just because I heard a PD called someone from a program I'm interested-in doesn't mean I'm not going to match there. Honestly, it just tells me more about how they felt following interview day and how honest they were with me. It's nerve wracking, but I just want to match and be a neurosurgeon. I'm not expecting any more contact

All of you who are ranking Mayo on the spreadsheet - do you have reason to believe you have a good chance matching there or just shooting your shot?

Shooting the shot. Would rather swing and miss versus spending the next 40 years wondering if I'd have gotten a spot...

Do applicants historically change their rank order list multiple times before the deadline?

i.e., am I the only one changing it hysterically...?

Not just you. I login, rearrange, and arrange back as a general pass time.
