Ortho vs. Neuro (For Spine)
#1
For someone interested in spine pp, what would you recommend? The neuro route or the ortho route? In terms of the differences between the two, I find the brain more interesting than hip/knee, sports, etc. What's your thoughts?

If spine is really what ur interested in, you will do far more spine cases in neurosurgery residency than u will in ortho, and be far better prepared

How common is it to do a fellowship after the 7 years if you’re going into pp or hospital employment? Or do people deciding to do academics only do a fellowship after the 7 years?

Increasingly common, though not required by any means

Their residency plus the spine fellowship is 5 years vs 7 or 8.

Personalities on average are much more bearable.

Less "middle of the night" emergencies in ortho, but more residents per program to take call so less call.

You get a much better spine experience in neurosurgery, but orthopedics is the easier route no question.
