Chillest Programs? Most Malignant Programs?
#41
Definitely Buffalo lol. I’m a sub I and there is literally an active strike at University of Buffalo involving 800+ residents. (Read about it on Reddit). It’s concerning to see every single one of these residents coming in, not entirely because they want to, but because they know Dr Levy will blacklist them if they don’t come in to work. Kind of a shame tbh.

In response to the post about Buffalo:

I am currently one of the chief residents here and I am one of the resident members of the bargaining committee for the union. I have been doing work for the union since its inception last year. For all applicants, the post about Dr. Levy threatening to blacklist residents for striking is actually 100% false. As a whole, our department has been exceptionally supportive of the unionization and contract negotiation process. Since day one I have had open communications with Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Levy regarding the ongoings with the union. In fact, some of the language in the contract is based upon benefits that residents in our department currently receive that other departments do not. Furthermore, the attendings in our department, at the request of Dr. Levy, literally pooled together their own money to help increase our salaries, though this was ultimately declined by the university. Finally, leading up to the strike Dr. Levy made it known that he fully supported our right to strike, should we choose to.

We sat down as a resident cohort before the strike and unanimously decided not to strike because we felt that it was not a show of "good faith" to our department who have always been 100% supportive of us. There was no threat of being "blacklisted" that played a role.

This post was brought to my attention by one of our junior residents and I, of my own accord, decided to address this head on because there has been a lot of misinformation going around about the strike at UB. Hopefully I was able to shed some light on what actually is going on here and reassure interested candidates.

Come on, dude. Did he promise you of faculty job that’s why you are lurking here? Typically chiefs are the last to care about their program or checking forums unless there is some secondary gain. Lastly, if you guys really decide not to participate in the strike “on your own”, then you all SUCK. How dare are you even to post this. Your residents across all departments decided to participate but you as neurosurgery residents decided not because it would reflect badly on the department? What a clown
