If any program directors look on here hopefully the world will spread that depending on the center Prometric is routinely canceling step 2 ck exams the day before the exam despite having confirmed appointments via telephone with the center just a few days prior. Shouldn't prevent somebody from getting 250ish but can prevent getting a really killer score if you end up having to take it some random day months after your dedicated period.

Yep^. I was consistently getting ~270 on my practice tests and then got the real thing cancelled 2 days in advance. Completely stopped studying since then because I can't put the rest of my life on hold for a test when I have know idea when it will happen.

Does anyone know if there is any advantage to submitting ERAS early (opens on Sept 1) since programs do not begin reviewing applications until Oct 21? Are applications reviewed in the order that they are received, or is there no advantage?

The way I understood it, programs can't even see applications until October 21. Correct me if I'm wrong

Why do we think we had such a brutal year in 2020 in terms of matching? Mostly to do with the pandemic or just a surge in interest and competitiveness of neurosurgery? Can we expect this trend to follow next year?

I doubt it had anything to do with the pandemic as that really took off after rank lists were already submitted. Likely just happened that a lot more people than usual apply. The numbers of med students in general keep increasing while residency spots don't increase as fast so it's likely to continue
