Institutions where a SubI helps match

All of them.

doing a sub-I at an institution is a two-way street. It could really increase your chances at matching at that institution, (upwards to 100% match if you want), or it could do the exact opposite and scratch your chances of even interviewing there.

Programs in less ideal locations often don't get as much love and really appreciate people who do subis. One that is notorious for liking subinterns and previously (decades ago) would only interview subinternships was UVA

Almost every program will look at you more seriously if you rotated with them and were liked.

While it’s unlikely you’d be able to match at a top tier institution with below average stats across the board, if you’re already competitive for a spot AND you rotated with them AND they liked you, you’ll have the best possible odds in your favor.

As with all things nothing is guaranteed, but at the end of the day most people will prefer the someone they know they can tolerate for 7 years and won’t quit the residency as opposed to an unknown person, even if that unknown person might be slightly better on paper.
