Cornell Rejection Already
#11
Clearly the posters above have high quality applications but doesn’t break the ice for programs like Cornell that weigh your MD institution higher than SubI performance and letters.

how is that allowed? How can they get good applicants? What if someone is really smart but goes to a lower-tier school? how is that ok?

I see this type of thinking all the time, similar to 'high stats applicants must be social morons'. There are a lot of people who just have both/all three - socially normal people with great stats, great SubI performance, great letters, and from great institutions. That's what makes it a tough environment to compete in, not that students in lower tier institutions are secretly actually better but nobody is looking at them.

No one gets every interview they apply for, even the best candidates. I wouldn’t read too deep into not getting 1 interview

Program does beat job it can looking at paper credentials of 350+ applicants, most of whom have great LORs and stellar boards and high # of papers. Tough job for them. Have an element of randomness in the process based on geography, couples match, name of med school, extracurriculars, etc. Get a lot of offers, don't dwell on those you don't have.
