Open Vascular volume

I’d add that some people graduating from programs with low volume are not being realistic with their skill set and don’t get additional training because of their program prestige which is dangerous. With this trend as a specialty we will come to accept higher levels of complications.

I argue that we're already seeing plenty of "complications" - we're mostly getting better at identifying them. This is largely in the realm of spine where the field is finally starting to understand how all the fusions we've been doing affect people. Life and bad surgery are kyphosing events.

And if you think that we have a problem as a specialty, take a look at all the pain management people out there doing procedures. Perc SI joint fusions, interspinous spacers, pain pumps, SCS - all done outpatient, and the attending is nowhere to be found when there's a problem.

Better question is why you’re seeking open experience when there are fewer and fewer indications

Hopkins has low vascular volume, certainly low open vascular. 4-5 residents scrubbed per case.
