Sub-I Choice: Stanford vs. UW

I would pick the busiest the place for sub I to test how much work you can handle... It may help you to decide your rank list base on your eventual preference for what is best suited for you

Stanford is a hardcore sub I - very long hours. But lots of fun. Would strongly recommend.

Do you mind if i ask what you found most difficult about it? Or your experience in general?

I'd recommend Emory and UWash. Sure Penn and Stanford are pumping out a ton of papers but if you're looking for good sub-i experiences then UWash and Emory are easy choices unless you have a preference for Philadelphia or Palo Alto

The overall descriptions of the sub-i on this website  were consistent with my experience.  Don't have a lot to add.  It is a great sub-i and wasn't difficult in any negative ways.  Awesome people and a great program, just long hours and lots to learn.  You have more of a role/responsibility than in my other sub-is.  You pre-round and present the icu patients every morning, since they are primary on their own icu patients this has to be thorough but succinct, took me a fair amount of time to make sure I had everything right.  A lot more sick vascular patients than my other sub-is.

if you do the stanford sub-i i would also try to spend a week at their county hospital.  Only one resident there and lots of cases and autonomy, I got to do more hands on learning in the OR that week than the other weeks at the main and pediatric hospitals.
