Any experience or thoughts on the newer programs like carolinas med, inova, michigan state, mayo jax, A&M? Any away rotators insight? What about the DO programs that are now merged with MD like VTech? Thx!

  Making Rank Lists

Just put out a new article on doximity about making rank lists. Never too early to think about strategy
There's also a link to an excel spreadsheet that I made for myself, which was incredibly useful last year. Feel free to download and share

Good luck everyone, and enjoy the interview trail

ERAS submission date -- Sep 15th vs Sep 20th - is it suicidal ?
Posted by: vmtrinka - 09-14-2018, 08:17 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (4)

Hi fellas, do any of you guys have advice for my situation : I am applying for 2019 match but I am just not able to submit my application by tomorrow Sep 15th for many reasons, one of which is I have to get my school to send updated transcript. I can fix  all these by next week and I can submit a well completed application by Sep 20th.

I called a three neurosurgery program coordinators to ask if I should submit an incomplete application and then update later or submit my application one week later. One coordinator said they download all application on September 16th and that is it for the entire cycle. Another coordinator said they don't care very much as they will review all applications submitted before the application deadline in October and said I should have no problem submitting Sep 20th. The third coordinator completely refused to give me any advice or thoughts in this matter.

I am really bogged by this. I would very much appreciate if you guys have any advice,  evidence or hearsay to help me decide when I must submit the ERAS.

In case my profile has some impact, here is a bit about myself : Non-US IMG from Caribbean medical school, 250+ Step 1, 12 publications in 5 years research prior to medschool( but none in nsgy) , currently post-doc fellow in academic nsgy program with a couple of abstract submissions.

Thanks a lot folks and all the best to everyone this application cycle !!

  Interview Invites 2018-2019
Posted by: SquidZaddy - 09-13-2018, 03:11 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (1274)

Hey folks,

Wanted to go ahead and get this going - most of us will be submitting in the next few days if we haven't already and, if last year is any indication of what this year will be like, interviews will start coming out soon after that.

Here's last year's thread: http://neurosurgeryhub.org/showthread.php?tid=386

Can use the same format - just list interviews as they come. " Date of invite - program (Interview dates)

Good luck to everyone this year! Looking forward to meeting all you damn impressive people. Let's keep this clean, informative and respectful.

  Submitted Pubs

If I have a ton of submitted papers, does it look like padding to list them all on ERAS? Is just a few enough to show that I am still actively working on research without trying to inflate my numbers? Or should I be putting every single one regardless?

  ERAS submitted manuscript
Posted by: Guest - 08-30-2018, 11:33 AM - Forum: General interest - Replies (4)

Let's say we've submitted a manuscript, and it's under review, but otherwise hasn't progressed further yet (no revise + resubmit or anything).

Can this go under "Peer Reviewed Journal Articles/Abstracts(Other than Published)"?

It feels weird to put it here because it actually hasn't been peer reviewed.

  Letters by ERAS deadline
Posted by: Baba - 08-25-2018, 03:45 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (3)

Is it mandatory to have 3 letters by 9/15? Will programs interview you with only 2? My third (of four) subI’s won’t be done until the following week and then who knows how fast the chair will have the letter in on top of that. I have two already, wondering if I should ask for another from my last away in order to have 3? Don’t have a home program.

Appreciate your help.
