is the med school you attend a big factor in your chances of matching at an upper program? if one were to go to a school ranked about 50th with 250 step 1 and 3-4 pubs would they have a better chance at a top program than one from a top 20 med school with a 248 step one with 2-3 pubs? how much of a factor is the med school you attend?
thanks

Anyone ever declined an interview where they did a sub-I at? Obviously not ideal but if for the sake of interviews at better programs and you did not enjoy the sub-I very much and don't want to go there is it really that bad?

| Missing Interview Dinner? |

What are your thoughts about missing an interview dinner due to conflicts with another interview? For example Program #1 dinner Monday night and interview Tuesday. Program #2 dinner Tuesday night and interview Wednesday. Trying to decide if it is worth attending these additional interviews at the potential risk of shooting myself in the foot at other programs by missing the dinner.

What's the consensus on whether med students should go to AANS if it's not held near them that year? Any value in going / paying to get yourself there?
Also, is it true it's hard to get an abstract accepted there with the typical med student project? You know, our motto of quantity over quality, does it apply here?

Just thinking it might be a good idea to have a separate thread from the interview invites to swap interviews. I am hoping for someone to switch my 1/11 OKC date for 11/12. PM me!

| Programs with Many IMGs? |

What is the general consensus on programs that take many IMGs (>40-50%)? Do they just select the best candidates U.S. grad or not? or is this more of a red flag that they can't attract U.S. grads to attend?
