  Genuine Question
Posted by: Guest - 07-07-2023, 01:26 AM - Forum: General interest - Replies (4)

I and a friend are M1's at a t10 and mid tier school, respectively. We both have no connections, legacy, or friends/family of influence. What would be the bare minimum we both need to do individually to match at a decent, but not crap or t20 nsgy program? How much could I rely on my school name, without doing much actual productive work? And how much harder would my friend have to work to overcome their school rank to match as well as me?

Thought I'd set this thread up as a hub for us to discuss Dr. Myron Rolle's next moves and career advancements

Dr. Rolle is the goat. Excited to see his next moves at Hopkins!

Anyone have a list of sub-i locations that have an exam at the end that helps determine your grade?

I know UCI has one. Any others?

  3rd year Rotation Grades
Posted by: personfive - 06-30-2023, 12:06 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (3)

Going through 3rd year right now. High passed everything so far (school is P/HP/H system). Obviously goal is to try and honor some damn rotations but my school makes it very difficult.

Step 1: Pass
Pubs: 1 basic science from undergrad, 1 clinical in nsg, 1 poster, 1 abstract
Pubs in review: 2 (soon to be 3) basic science papers, 3 clinical papers, 2 abstracts

Honoring every rotation would have been ideal, but how much am I hurting my chances if I only High Pass everything during 3rd year?
I understand doing well on Step 2 and killing my Sub-Is is high priority as well.

Btw all pubs in review are neurosurgery or neuroscience related

  Career advice

Hi guys, I'm a IMG currently doing my first years as research fellow at a very big name university in the US.
My original goal was to get into nsgy and I've always known that it would be very hard as IMG, but I was nonetheless very committed. However many things happened in life in the mean time, so short story short, I don't know if I'm willing to spend my next 7 (8) years with no life outside of the hospital.

I wanted to ask you if you could rate my chances of matching into neurosurgery after 1 year of fellowship with the following credentials. Also rate chances fo ENT or radiology as secondary options. My current research projects heavily overlap with these 2 fields:

Step 1 258
Step 2CK 260
YOG 2021
At least 7 good articles (not case reports / letter to authors / reviews) within the end of 2023, if not more.
Step 3 within the end of the year.

I know this is the 4chan of neurosurgery, but I still hope for serious answers  Big Grin
thanks

OP here, forgot to add:
will have 1-2 LoR

what about those chances after 2 years of research
