Which is sad and defeat the purpose to obtain a good quality of exposure and experience ?‍♀️

Just for future reference, Lesniak writes fairly shitty letters. If I were a med student, I would see this as a nail in the coffin. Too much trouble for this guy to fuck you over anyways.

Every med student is simply working with the best advise they have and in this situation the advise is clearly not unanimous. If their mentor happens to be someone who doesn't agree with the SNS they are going to be pushed to do a sub I and they shouldn't be held against them. I would hope that those interview this season would be smart enough to understand.

No need to put the kids in the middle when mommy and daddy are fighting.

What “dissenting opinions” are you talking about? No one has made their recommendations public besides what was posted by the SNS. NU’s chair speaking up would be bold but given that four ppl from his department were on the call last week he just comes off as clueless

I am an NU resident....what four people from the dept were on the call?  You mean medical students from NU?  There were no NU faculty on any call.  Our chair was super proactive about COVID before anyone else in the country.  From my understanding and discussions with him, at least half of the chairs from the top ten programs in the country were not even asked for their opinion.  If Lesniak speaks, trust me, he knows what he is talking about and I will defend him any day against a clueless medical student trying to sound intelligent.  If you want to do a subi, do it; if you don't then dont.

Can confirm. Sometimes the templated letter doesn’t even have the correct applicants name on it

Disagree.....at my program, residents rotate to screen and interview applicants too so I get a chance to see many letters.  Have you seen any from Berger or Solomon or Lawton, or others?  You guys dont know what you are talking about.......Lesniak's letters are pretty telling and if you did not get a glowing letter, just consider that maybe its you?  If you want a letter of how special you are, ask your mother; otherwise let's stop the bs and trashing of programs and people here.  Neurosurgery is competitive - live with it or find a different field.

Shifting back to the original content of this post -

I just spoke to the curriculum office at my medical school. They say that a decision by the AAMC/VSAS is most likely going to come out within the next week (May 11) which will give broad instruction to all medical schools regarding away rotations.

So as much as we're stressed now about "Oh what happens if they accept me for an away, what do I do about letters, etc" - the body actually in charge of medical students might just cancel all aways and deactivate VSAS this year.
