What’s the best strategy? Gen surg pre-lim?

Although SDN is often a cess pool, there was this one good gem of a post I stumbled upon which discussed GME funding rules: https://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads...t-22548942
Can anybody talk to whether prelim gen surg versus TY versus something else is better from a program's point of view of GME funding? $$$ talks, obviously

If I don't match neurosurgery I really can't picture doing anything else (have contemplated neurology or gen surg and it seems like it would be a poor fit).
I already took a research year so that wouldn't be an option. If I did a prelim year and then passed step 3, what job opportunities are out there outside of medicine?

It depends on what you are interested in! There are SO many opportunities in pharma/biotech, especially for people with MDs. Possible career paths include: research (pre-clinical or clinical development), medical affairs (medical science liaison, medical communications, health economics and outcomes research), regulatory affairs or pharmacovigilance (maybe not as interesting but very well paid), etc.

Go so some research for 1-2 years. Seek out a highly productive neurosurgery attending and write papers with them. Work day and night. Then you'll match.

Yes Can anyone please give some pros cons of prelim surgery? What do programs think of reapplicants who went to do prelim surgery and reapplied to neurosurgery? Thanks

I already have 30 pubmed cited papers from my original research year- dont think this is a feasible route for me
