any chance you guys are non-traditional? (IMGs, deferred..etc.)

I heard the opposite for UB, research trumps step scores (given they're not heinous). I personally would rather stay here with family and friends, that's why I'd like to match here. I'm also relatively active in this community, so I'd like to keep that going. I do get your point though, zeroing in on one program might not be the best approach to this competitive specialty.

Currently M2 and talked with a friend currently applying, he told me they're looking for 240's, ALOT of research experience (something around 25 for seniors) and an interest in an academic route. Also said 2 local NY subIs (SUNY upstate for one) help out, no preference for people that had spent any time rotating/observing in buffalo. He said it's not very competitive here since the lifestyle is a downside for many applicants, but the program is up and coming under levy and siddiqui. My friend didn't tell me whether he got an invite or not, and I totally understand everyone's discretion here. he also wasn't overly specific. seems like he's at least right about the research experience, any more insight would be helpful.
Bud, bud. Just do your best.
I'll try my dude, just trying to optimize my application towards the specialty overall but skewed towards buffalo.
Talk to the residents and get on some projects. That place is like a paper factory. Shoot for 20 by the time you're applying.
yes that is the consensus, with gates and roswell park, we have alot of opportunity here. In your opinion, can I crank out that much work by the time I apply? that's 2 summers if I finish step 1 prep early. seems a bit difficult.

also, do they all have to be in NSG? I have a couple posters in a basic science project I worked on after M1. thoughts?

dude dont listen to him. 20 papers is ridiculous. Just kill step 1, get some research, then youre fine.

this
this is getting confusing, it's a shame the NRMP data only says 5 or more. wish there was another tier since there are 96 that matched with 5 or more research projects, and 154 with 5 or more A, P & P. idk if that means 6 or 20.....

The kid already said he thinks they favor that. I get the impression his step score won't be terribly impressive. Get in with the residents and fellows closest to Levy, be a soldier bang out 20 papers, win the game. MTG

Nope. Name brand med school. I'm the first post.
20+ papers for an interview invite at your home program? Having 3-5 papers should cut it for most programs with 240+ and good letters.
Letters count for more in this process than you would think. I don't think someone who has a 245 with only 1-2 papers but solid rec letters from guys like Lawton and Golfinos is going to have any less than 20 interviews.
Wrong. No one reads the letters until you get an invite. So no the letters won't get you the actual invite. Your Step 1 gets you dat invite homie.
