Slowest interview season. What gives?

Slow indeed! Meanwhile, is there hope in getting interviews from places that have already sent out invitations. That is, are cancellations and re-scheduling common enough that one could get interview offers in October and November ? Another question : Do programs have more than one big wave of interview invites or is the second and third round of invites just in trickles to fill up left over spots ? Any thought ? Thanks!
