When programs say to "stay in touch" with residents or faculty throughout the process to demonstrate interest, how are we supposed to do that? Are we supposed to just hit them with random questions? Try to connect w/ ppl we haven't met? Is all of this meaningless?
Just want to put out raw feelings friends, I am starting to feel really down. feeling like chances to Match this cycle as dim as ever. programs aren't accepting 2nd looks too. Wish i get the chance to work with some of you wonderful people! But darn this cycle is brutal
Someone on Reddit mentioned in the medical school sub that nsg had 20-25% of applicants holding 75% of interviews. Any source for this?
Speaking as someone with >40 interview offers, it is definitely possible to schedule this many interviews without overlap. I don't intend to go on over 20, but anyone in the 30-40 range can get it done pretty easily. There is definitely going to be scrambling this year
I've heard 2 things:
1) 25 interviews is the "safe" number this year (I guess this number is spouted off of all of the uncertainty, but no real math that I've seen behind it).
2) Applicants will match with less interviews than usual this year, because a smaller % of applicants are receiving the bulk of interviews compared to other years, i.e. if you have 15+ interviews you are part of that group and you are safe
FWIW...quite a few PDs and chairmen I have spoken with on the trail have implicated that 15 is a completely safe and healthy # of interviews/ranks this year, and more than that is overkill.
Thoughts?
