Resident here. Tell us as soon as you genuinely know. Make is obvious you want to come here. We won’t forget, we write down such details. As long as people are honest about this, it can help.

Should we let the residents know as well or just the PD?

If the residents (often PGY5s) have a very active role in the process, then you should absolutely let those residents know (if that is your honest intention).

Is this only for the #1 program?

Expressed my interest to the residents already so I think they have me on the radar. I was planning on sending my #1 a formal letter via email, but should I have my home PD call as well? Does it matter which one or are both necessary?

For what it's worth, I interviewed there as well and don't recall any weird/malignant interactions. I thought it was a great culture with people who are happy to be there

I am a resident interviewer, west coast. As a resident interviewer, my vote counts the same as a faculty member's vote. I encourage you if you are genuinely interested to reach out. However, you should only tell your #1 that you are ranking them #1, and don't tell multiple programs that they are your #1. i thought this would be common sense.

Do you guys send thank-you notes to every interviewer or just the chair and PD?

Along the same lines...do people typically say "I will be ranking you #2" or just "will rank highly"?

How much of this shit actually matters since it seems like our interviewers submit their evals on us immediately after the interview
