Diablo 4 Curious Addition and Premium Guide by U4GM
#1
Diablo 4's Curious Addition is the better Obols option for more purchase attempts, while Premium Purveyor costs three times as much for higher Ancestral odds. They are separate Purveyor entries, so you need to read the labels and prices before spending. If you need more gear rolls for a few targeted slots, Diablo 4 Items can help you compare possible upgrades before committing your PTR currency.

The key difference is simple: Curious Addition adds a chance at a second item, while Premium Purveyor concentrates more Obols into a single purchase with improved Ancestral odds. Neither option guarantees the result you want, and the bonus attached to Curious Addition does not make every slot useful.

1 How does Curious Addition work in Diablo 4

Curious Addition is an additional Purveyor path that uses Obols and can return a second item through its "Two for One up to 25%" effect. The 25% figure is a maximum chance, not a guaranteed extra reward, so some purchases can provide only the item you paid for.

Open the Purveyor interface and confirm the entry name before choosing a slot. The position of each entry can change between PTR builds, so rely on the displayed text instead of a remembered button location. Check the Obols price shown for the selected slot as well.

◆ A purchase without a second item has still spent its Obols.

◆ The extra item chance does not make an unwanted slot a good purchase.

Curious Addition suits players who want more attempts from a limited currency balance. Helmets, chest armor, pants, and boots can be useful targets for defensive affixes, while gloves, weapons, and jewelry can support offensive setups. The available slot list controls what you can buy, so check it before selecting a roll.

2 What does Premium Purveyor offer for the extra cost

Premium Purveyor charges three times the Obols price of the comparable Curious Addition purchase and offers higher Ancestral odds. That price difference means one Premium purchase can consume the same currency as three Curious Addition purchases, so the choice affects both the number of rolls and the item tier you are pursuing.

Higher Ancestral odds do not turn Premium Purveyor into a guaranteed Ancestral source. Lower-tier results can still appear, and the tooltip should be checked directly in the PTR build before you commit to the purchase. Treat the triple price as a cost for improved odds, not as a promise of a specific rarity.

Premium Purveyor makes more sense when your build already has suitable slots and your main goal is an Ancestral upgrade. Curious Addition is more suitable when several equipment slots need replacement or when you want a larger sample of possible items from the same Obols balance.

3 How should you compare both Purveyor entries

Use separate batches so the results remain easy to read. A practical comparison uses a fixed Obols budget for Curious Addition, counts its extra items, and then reserves enough currency for one Premium purchase. Comparing three Curious purchases with one Premium purchase is useful because the listed costs are related by the 3x price.

Count usable items rather than raw drops. A second item from Curious Addition has little value if it comes from a slot you do not need, while one Premium item may be more useful because of its Ancestral status. Inspect each result before selling or salvaging anything, especially when the second item appears.

1) Record your starting Obols balance and the prices shown by both entries.

2) Choose two or three target slots based on your current gear needs.

3) Spend a fixed Curious Addition batch and record every second-item result.

4) Keep enough Obols for a Premium purchase at three times the Curious price.

5) Buy one Premium item and note its rarity and Ancestral status.

6) Compare usable results, not just the total number of items received.

Do not spend your entire balance on Curious Addition before checking the Premium price. Once your remaining currency falls below three times the Curious price, you cannot make the same Premium comparison with that balance.

4 Which Purveyor entry should you choose on the PTR

Choose Curious Addition when you need more chances at upgrades across targeted slots and can accept a chance-based second item. Choose Premium Purveyor when a smaller number of expensive rolls is acceptable and higher Ancestral odds matter more than purchase volume.

The PTR window listed for these systems is Oct 27 through Nov 3. Vendor wording and entry order can differ between builds, so check the build information and read the current tooltips before testing. A copied character with a planned Obols balance makes it easier to repeat the comparison without mixing results from different budgets.

◆ Reserve Premium currency before beginning a Curious Addition batch.

◆ Stop buying a slot when it no longer matches your gear plan.

◆ Keep Curious Addition and Premium results in separate notes.

Start with your target list, verify the displayed costs, and use Curious Addition for volume unless your main goal is specifically a higher Ancestral roll. After the comparison, you can spend the remaining Obols according to the result that best matches your build needs, then buy Diablo 4 Items that fit your current upgrade plan.
