Chairs Shuffling
True, before Charlie Wilson was the great Charlie Wilson, he was a 38-year-old newly appointed chair at UCSF. He earned the greatness over the next 25 years. Being designated the chair should not be the crowning achievement of one's career; it's more like an opportunity to be in the conversation. Let UCSD run with it and see where the new Chair takes them.

Naw they're a joke. Horrible idea probably came from the hospital/system CEO or some other administrative/beurocratic figurehead. Can't be a popular decision with any of the attendings.

All I have to say is, if you know any senior attendings who worked with this guy and/or taught him in med school or residency ask them what they think and you'll learn all you need to know...

Current applicants , question/scrutinize thoroughly all these effusively positive posts

Salty that your new chair was a fellow in 2011? https://www.cns.org/about-us/history/biography/4926

The reality is that your program has collapsed in the last few years. When I applied a while back it was considered a solid Cali program. Now you've lost your major faculty and have been unable to recruit any talent from outside to replace them. Keep hating on 4th year med students who just want the best for themselves.

I have a feeling all this fear mongering is a Cali kid seeing an opportunity to throw some smoke and scare off other applicants so they can stay in socal. Khalessi is more than qualified. He's neither the first, nor will he be the last young chairman.

I dont kjow abything about this guy but superstars out of residency have been known to be offered chairmanships rapidly. I know of a couple guys who were research heavy hitters that were getting chairmanship offer within 5 years of graduation.

He's not a superstar. Plainly. The program was dealt it's death blow when Chen and Carter left but it was already fading. Appointment of him as chair is salt in the wound.

Sad but at least it's a back up program now for anyone who is really invested in being in Cali but doesn't end up at a real program there.

To the current residents, I feel for you. Keep your heads up, you'll be all right

Am I the only one who feels like this guy sounds more "spiteful" than "concerned"? Did UCSD do something to you?

It's not just one person posting against this. But nice try, Alex.

LMAO, UCSF would have never become UCSF without the great Mitchel Berger
