Ortho spine fellowships |

Does anyone know anything about applying to any of the Ortho spine fellowships?
While I know neurosurgery gets much better training during residency, it seems some of the better fellowships are with the orthopods (aka Lenke, Rothman, etc.)

How much do neurosurgeons make overall? Academics vs Private? Big city vs rural? Full time surgeon vs part time researcher?

I know everyone wishes they had more info about their competitiveness at certain programs prior to submitting ERAS. I've created a form asking for your stats and where you received interview invitations. If we can get enough responses, I'll crunch the numbers on the means and ranges for each school's USMLE scores, AOA, pubs, etc. and get them into a PDF that will be available to everyone. Hopefully this process can be improved for next year's applicants.
Well aware of the caveats of doing this anonymously, but think of how useful this would have been for you, so please consider doing this and being honest.
Thanks!

How do programs look at third year grades? Been getting straight P's in a P/HP/H system so far, but written comments are all good. Other than surgery, IM, and neuro are there specific clerkships that get looked at closely?

Transferring Programs |

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice from residents and attendings on transferring programs. On match day, i was surprised to fall down my rank list. I knew i wasn't the only one who this happened to and I sucked it up and worked hard to make the best of my program. I also built some good relationships with the people I work with here. I initially had concerns about the program my intern year but brushed them off.
I'm a PGY2 now and as things progress, I realize that my program has significant flaws to the point where I will not be adequately trained. To put it simply, the operative volume and autonomy is very poor and I'm surprised that this program was able to sustain itself. I don't believe our graduates are well-trained nor are my co-residents meeting their appropriate milestones. I thought my program was big on research but there's a significant lack of commitment to teaching and research by our faculty.
The problem is, I don't have a personal reason or extreme circumstance to justify transferring to another program. In fact, my family is actually nearby. I've heard of arrangements for people with significant others far away or a family member who is ill. But my reason would only be because i fear being inadequately trained here. I also understand that there may be a lot of residents who are in a similar situation to me. Is there anything that I can do?

Sharing housing thread |

Hey all, let's create a thread for sharing housing. This should appeal to anyone who has looked at their bank account recently...
Plus, at this point many of us know each other, so it shouldn't be too awkward.
To start it off: looking for a place to stay in Chicago on November 14th, for Northwestern interview. Will split the cost.
I'm male, but flexible wrt who I stay with.
nsgyguy789@gmail.com
Thanks!
Feel free to post your own sharing housing requests below.

Hey guys, wanted to get your thoughts on my application thus far. I did have circumstances which lead to my bad step score (head on car accident leading to vertebral fractures and subluxations in my first year)
step 1: 225
step 2: Not taken
IM-HP
Surg-P
rest of rotations not completed yet
NREF (from AANS) scholarship for research
8 written pubs, 4 oral, 2 poster
Goal is to match, I don't care where
How should I plan out the rest of my medical school to match?
Thank you in advance
