For emails to your top programs, do you email just the PD or the PD and chair? How many programs is reasonable to ask home chairman to reach out to for you? Anyone else not have time for second looks...

  Late to the game?
Posted by: medstud1234 - 12-30-2018, 09:05 AM - Forum: General interest - Replies (20)

Hi everyone! I'm halfway through M3 and realizing that I really want to do neurosurgery. I know most people don't stumble into neurosurgery, so I'm wondering what's the best way to proceed.

School: top school with a weak home program
Step 1: 265
Grades: all honors so far
Research: all non-neurosurgery
2 first author papers (1 basic science)
3 first author textbook chapters
3 non-first author papers
5 poster presentations

Would appreciate any advice.

  Ortho spine fellowships
Posted by: Guest - 12-21-2018, 02:48 PM - Forum: Fellowship application - Replies (8)

Does anyone know anything about applying to any of the Ortho spine fellowships?

While I know neurosurgery gets much better training during residency, it seems some of the better fellowships are with the orthopods (aka Lenke, Rothman, etc.)

How much do neurosurgeons make overall? Academics vs Private? Big city vs rural? Full time surgeon vs part time researcher?

Interview Offer Stats Survey (for posterity)
Posted by: Encephaluffagus - 12-17-2018, 04:35 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (6)

I know everyone wishes they had more info about their competitiveness at certain programs prior to submitting ERAS.  I've created a form asking for your stats and where you received interview invitations.  If we can get enough responses, I'll crunch the numbers on the means and ranges for each school's USMLE scores, AOA, pubs, etc. and get them into a PDF that will be available to everyone. Hopefully this process can be improved for next year's applicants.

Well aware of the caveats of doing this anonymously, but think of how useful this would have been for you, so please consider doing this and being honest.

Thanks!
