I am thinking of canceling a SubI that I have in 6 weeks. Could I pretty much kiss my chances at interviewing there good bye if I do it?

What happens if they don't like me on my Sub I's. What happens if I don't match. What happens if my step score is not high enough when they decide to interview or rank. What happens if I didn't get enough honors 3rd year. What happens if the chairs don't write good enough letters.
What happens if they don't like me during the interviews.
This process has me so very scared out of my mind. There is so much that can potentially go wrong. So many factors that can get screwed up.

| Getting Hated on my Surgical Residents |

All the neurosurgery residents at my school were awesome and I had a blast on my rotation with an Honors.
But....then I had to rotate on Urology, ENT, and Vascular. The residents were cool with me the first few days and told me how good of a job I was doing in each case. The very MOMENT they heard I wanted to do neurosurgery, BAM they did a 360. Never before have I felt so uncomfortable. Everything I did was critiqued. They had me doing scut work, they only brought up minor things I was doing incorrect, and they consistently told me how much of a mistake I was making with neurosurgery. Urology was the worst, those guys are Dickbags (literally). I guess Vascular was the least obnoxious but man why so much hate. I'm waiting for them to slander me on my reviews, I know my grade will suffer because especially from the ENT and Urology a-holes. This is such garbage.

If you're a pre-med or a pre-MS4, please don't respond. This forum is rife with pre-ejaculatory die hards.
I finished my Sub I at my home institution. I definitely enjoyed it, but there were days I asked myself if I could do this for the rest of my life. I'm not particularly fond of my program because of a lack of research focus. I'll be doing a Sub I next at what I think would be my first choice, which is a research heavy institution. I'm hoping this Sub I will let me parse out if I'm having second doubts relative to institution or to neurosurgery in general.
I've considered almost every other specialty and can't see myself doing any of them.
-Medicine/Neurology people talk too much
-Rads/Path makes me fall asleep
-Anesthesiology is boring af
-OBGYN/Peds - not my turf
-FM, going the way of the NP, chronic diseases
-Ophtho, too meticulous for me
-Plastics/Ortho/GenSurg/ENT/Vascular/CT, all as difficult as NS in many respects, none as interesting
If you put a gun to my head and said do anything besides NS, I'd probably have to do rad-onc. My interests are in onc.
I'm just wondering if this is normal. Is this just the stress of Sub Is, applications talking.
What would you tell your brother in this situation?

I am a 32 y/o M1. Is it too late for me to pursue Neurosurgery?
Considering I would be 43 coming out of residency and the average Neurosurgeon retires at 60.
Do neurosurgeons reduce their caseload as they get older or switch to shorter procedures?
Will residency programs seriously consider me if I have the rest of my application on par with younger applicants?
Thanks!
Mods could move this to the general interest forum, since I have posted in the incorrect place.

Hey guys, really need help about moving forward m. Decided on neurosurgery really late and was wondering what my chances are realistically speaking. While I'd rather not take a research year, I am open to the idea.
Stats: Step 1 - 236
Research- So no publications at all but I have about 5 posters- undergrad in neuroscience and 2 from medical school in urology plus two grants.
So realistically speaking do I have a chance and what should my next steps be moving forward. Again it worried about matching at a top 10 and I'm coming from a top 50 school.
Thanks for your help!
