Big name from MD Anderson + recent UCSF grad in skull base.

Great tumor program. Must be a top 5 program for that based on hires and SPORE, but it doesn’t matter much if your residents don’t operate. From the interview it seemed like they’re working on this, but their descriptions of what they do in the OR were worrisome

They switched to the apprenticeship model that Mayo uses - probably going to change the operative experience in a good way if I had to bet on it. It’s a good recipe for a place without a lot of trauma.

I wouldn't use the temperatures this week to judge the weather anywhere. I was just in Dallas and it was like 20 degrees lol. I have no idea what's going on.

It's a thing, but the degree to which each person experiences it is different. Crazy high tier applicants probably don't see any regional bias

Each publication and Step 1 point greater than 250 gives you 100 additional miles of residency program interest.

260+ and I experienced some regional bias haha

Also, does anyone else repeatedly have the stupid captcha tell you you entered it wrong despite entering it perfectly beyond any doubt?
Huh it's almost as if programs care about more than just step scores

230’s and no regional bias. All regions covered ??‍♀️

Do you think being a ♀️helped you this year? My female friends applying had significantly more interviews with very similar stats

Was specifically told by a chair that being a white male would hurt me in the ranking process. I’m Not commenting on whether this is right or wrong. Just what I was told.

I'm so sorry about your struggles as a white male. Please tell me more!

If you're truly incapable of recognizing that it can at least be frustrating to feel like you worked hard and are hurt by your race/gender then you need to grow up. Obviously white males have had things the easiest of every possible demographic but the above poster wasn't really arguing against that.

Exactly. We need diversity in medicine but favoritism towards URM people hasn't made the workforce more diverse (still lower proportions than in general population despite it helping in hiring decisions as mentioned). Financial barriers are a bigger concern and have largely not been addressed
