Check out "Neurosurgery: What's the Data?" on the iphone app store.  It summarizes all the high quality studies in neurosurgery, stroke neurology, neuro-oncology, etc.  Free app, free trial period, then a cheap subscription fee if you decide you want to keep using it (I think it is like 3 bucks a year).  It will make you smarter, especially when you have only 15 seconds to look something up before you get pimped on it.

There is a companion app that focuses on spine, but that doesn't contain anything that the neurosurgery doesn't.  Mainly for ortho spine folks.

I'm a third year medical student planning on going to neurosurgery but currently hating general surgery rotation and will probably not honor. I loved my neurology and neurosurgery rotations earlier on in the year and have a great relationship with the NSG department. Is it okay to hate surgery but still want to do neurosurgery or should I jump ship to neurology?

I am on the fence about taking a research year, as research is a weaker point in my application. What do you all think?

I've applied to (maybe too many?) aways. Should I withdraw applications as soon as i have my first subI responses in order to avoid the dreaded 'turning down a subI'? I hear this is bad form which I want to avoid.

How much does regional bias matter for Sub Is? If i have 1 out of my state will that be enough to not blacklist me if all other rotations are in the same state?

Not sure if you remember me, I'm the FMG kid who had posted a year back about being interested in NSG. (Did a US rotation finished CK, CS etc - still love it),

That being said I'm (from a financial stand point) afraid to attempt this NSG thing because all my reasearch opportunities are unpaid for the first 6 months which is not something I can manage to support myself on.

So I would love to hear your thoughts and conduct a mini survey of sorts to help me choose. If you guys were in my position what would you pick if you couldn't have a straightforward route to NSG ?

1) NSG and NSG only because that's how it should be if you truly love it (insert dramatic music)
2) Neurology f/b Vascular f/b the endovascular thing a few places seem to offer because that comes the closest to being an NSG
3)Weird alternative option : IM f/b GI :  I know it's not the brain but there's still scopes and advanced endoscopy to whet my procedural appetite and some cool research potential in esophageal motility disorders etc

Would love to hear your opinions , please vote. (Ofc i will use my own brain to come to the final decision,  but still..)

MS2, currently interested in functional. Which programs have the best reputations or does it just depend on the faculty that are currently there?

Find a resident has a PGY2 neurosurgery opening in "mid-atlantic" USA. Does anyone know which program is listed as having the opening? It does not mention which program unless you pay their 75 dollar fee.

Currently deciding between these two locations to rotate in August. I'm unfamiliar with the reputation of these two programs (and southeast programs in general) and would welcome any advice
