I'm very early in my training, but many of the attendings I've spoken to about career paths in medicine seem to have a very negative view on academic medicine. Can anyone help me understand why this exist/where is stems from?

Hello, is there any benefit to attending the CNS or AANS annual meetings as a med student if you're not presenting research?

Looks like neither AANS nor CNS has a medical student track so I am curious to hear if students generally attending these meetings.

The talk about Mount Sinai (NYC) got me thinking about Cedars-Sinai (in LA).

Step1- 239
Research: 19 publications, 8 first authors. All sports medicine, cancer related. 2 other first authors under review. 5 conference abstracts. No neurosurgery specific research. Also have a drug delivery patent. 

Was averaging 255 on practice tests and was not expecting this outcome. Nothing to do but move on from here. Is step1 a deal breaker? What do i need to focus on going forward?

Beef brogonaufs, I see these hot nurses at the hospital that I'm mirin' and these ugly residents talking to them?  Please aware me where is the best places to train to snag the hotties?  I'm talking hot nurses, hot undergrad girls, hot business school girls, hot med school girls (do they exist?), and maybe hot residents (tho at that point they are likely all taken).  I just want a part of the smoke show.

Currently on my first subI and everyone has told me that they have 5+ applying from their school when most years have 1-2. Do you guys think that this year will have a huge surge in applications? What have your experiences been?
