but in neurosurgery, do all the final year residents automatically become chief residents,

or is one of them chosen during residency as a leader, cos of superior leadership skills, etc.

whats the maximum/usual no of years?

any particular recommendations for which greenberg chapters to focus on when prepping for an away? Ive heard trauma (GCS etc..) and cerebrovascular (hunt hess, fisher) are big ones.

Whats the procedure involved if i wanted to practice in the US? (Assuming I already have all my USMLEs done)

Would i have to write the USA board exams of neurosurgery residency, and then only able to practise in US?

A kind colleague shared with me recently an interesting dataset.  It takes residency programs in the US, ordered by the Doximity ranking and fills in information acquired from various other data sources such as AMA FREIDA, individual program websites, city-data.com, and niche.com.

How much free time do we typically have on an away? Can expect to be able to work on a manuscript for one of my attendings? Or to go out on the weekend?

What percentage of endovascular neurosurgery cases are elective vs emergency.  Is it possible to build a practice doing 100% elective endovascular cases.  I loathe spine, is it possible to do intracranial and endovascular and have enough cases for 2 days of OR in private practice.  I guess I can stand one or two MIS every 2 weeks...
