Interview Invites 2020-21

What does everyone make of the in-interview "you would be a great fit and we'd love to have you" comments. Should these be interpreted as genuine interest or are these canned lines for all applicants on interview day to sway rank lists orders? The first one or two times I heard it, I was pleasantly surprised but now I'm more cautious in interpretation. To residents who have had this experience, did you end up matching these programs that expressed interest early in the trail?

I've lost count on how many interviewers have used that exact phrase and take zero stock into it. I think the programs that use these canned lines have a prototype. It's obvious which programs have actually read your personal statement and know what you did for your research projects vs. those that can't even separate where you went to college/med school or scan your abstract list for names they recognize just to talk about who they are friends with

Looks like the unequal distribution of interviews is so bad this year that the AAMC had to release a statement. Hopefully PD's take this into account and send out more invites than usual to help mitigate people not matching / programs going unfilled

They do this every year... at the end it is always MGH, Hopkins, and USF lol

Did Rochester really only have one interview date or is the applicant spreadsheet not updated?

This is incorrect. My family member was interviewed by most top 10 programs, but really liked one that is top 15 and matched there. Without my family member contacting the program it would not have ranked them high.
