UCSD
#71
Appreciate the honest perspective from the poster at 3:58 on 5/2. Thats the kinda posting we need to inform each other.

Definitely agree that we should not discuss fellow applicants at all. Lame

w.e man-UCSD has 7 applicants this year and 2 will definitely stay at home. It's a waste of time to do a subI there

7??? I met a couple of them. Both are taking a research year. One works with Khalesssssssssi and the other at UCSF. Both will match really really well. Although both of them seem pretty underconfident and anxious to be able to match at a top 3 program

-who are you to call them underconfident and anxious? That says more about you than them

as a successful resident, I can call them whatever I want. I evaluate candidates each year, I have a sharp eye for identifying certain traits

Found a few residents to be extremely negative and high-stress - interestingly, did not find that they were truly friends with each other. Some of them were very rude about attendings and their capabilities which I found odd and a bit arrogant coming from junior residents. Also same residents I am thinking of were very condescending about each other behind their backs. Did not really come across like a cohesive team to me. Volume my month was extremely low and heard from other sub-I's that that was similar to their experience. On interview day, learned about some improvements including the addition of a tumor guy which I think has helped volume problems. It's really weird that nobody comments on volume but it was a major problem my month (double scrubbing the 2-3 cases of the day with the other subI plus the 2-3 residents also scrubbed in - not what you want). Again, I think this has improved so not trying to be negative - just honest. Females have it harder here based off what I've seen, and I've been told its no coincidence that Dr. Jones left so quickly.

while sd is amazing, and I really do think its an up and coming program with huge opportunities around its corner, i think usc is more stable and just overall a better choice for the time being

to more important things. How's the subI experience here? do they give preference to their subIs?

It's so sad that as a "successful" resident you would gossip about students.
