How do programs get a complement increase and can a program fill a complement increase with a PGY 5 spot?

For someone interested in spine pp, what would you recommend? The neuro route or the ortho route? In terms of the differences between the two, I find the brain more interesting than hip/knee, sports, etc. What's your thoughts?

Struggled with the dissection component of anatomy lab -- cutting through all the fat, etc. to reveal structures. I wasn't clumsy/dropping stuff etc. but there were definitely some students that were more gifted at doing clean dissections. I did decent on exams/practicals identifying structures (scored C's/B's mostly).
Is this a good sign that neurosurgery/a surgical career might not be for me? Haven't had surgical rotation yet but wondering how performance in cadaver lab relates to future or baseline operative skills.
I'm sure I could learn most mechanical exercises with time, but I'm a slower learner when it comes to muscle memory. If I decide I really want to do this (soon to be MS2), i'm willing to memorize Greenberg/Rhotons top 100/whatever else over the summer to get ahead so I can focus on operative skills if I lag behind during training.

Long history of interest and passion in neuro, and shadowing experience in neurosurgery since high school. But lacking research in the field as I am just reconsidering it after exploring other specialties in early years of med school. Do I even have a shot?

Any updated info on this program and the sub-I experience? Obviously has a well-known endovascular fellowship but is this a solid residency program otherwise? Seems like a strong program that is held back by location but not sure if that’s entirely true.

Can anyone compare these two programs? Know they’ve both had leadership changes in recently.
