Cornell vs Hopkins vs UCSF medical school

My friend was awarded a full cost of attendance scholarship to Cornell and Hopkins and full tuition to UCSF this past cycle. In the end they ended up choosing Cornell as her support network is in NYC and they wanted to stay in New York. They absolutely despised Baltimore and given that they had the option of staying in NY, they decided against moving across the country.
Given their interest in NSGY, they are now seriously kicking themselves over their decision (especially turning down Hopkins). How do I help them understand that this wasn't a mistake (unless people on here think it was)?

Elective spine only jobs

Anyone have thoughts on these elective spine only jobs? Often tied in with like an ortho or combined ortho/neuro spine group. Especially as a first job out (if really all you want to do is elective spine).
It could be a great fit for me but I’m worried if 1) it will impact board certification cases (will they actually board you in neurosurgery if you didn’t do a single crani for the oral boards) and 2) if you pinch yourself down to that alone for the first couple years would that limit me to those types of jobs and not general neurosurgery community jobs in the future should I need to relocate or something?

Chiefs,
What can interns prepare to make your lives as easy as possible?
What content can we review before we start? Radiology? Neurocrit?
How do we not die?
Better yet, how do we not kill people?
Thanks

Looks like one of their interns (rising PGY2) just left to go join McKinsey. Any word on the spot opening up for outside applicants?
Malignant program? Not worth it anymore?

Realistic chances for an academic job?

So obviously the math doesn’t add up…everyone enters residency wanting to do academic skullbase or something and leaves doing private practice spine/endovasc because that’s where the jobs are. Like 1 faculty retires every few years while the same program will graduate 2-3 residents a year. What does it actually take to get a job in academia if only like 10% of graduating residents would be able to get a spot? Is it easier if I went into spine to get an academic job than if I went for functional? Is academics pretty much only feasible if you are coming out of a brand name program? Give it to me straight.

Thoughts on "optional" supplemental ERAS?

NSRG is on the list of programs doing this for 2023 cycle. 8 program signals allotted per applicant.
My question is, what exactly goes on the supplemental app that wouldn't be placed on the main ERAS app?
They say not to duplicate information, so are we supposed to split our meaningful experiences apart from whats on the ERAS app?
It also says in the manual it's for interview only, so should we not signal our sub-i's or home program that we've interviewed at?

I have conflicting offers for an away and already have my other 2 aways set up. Apart from location, I'm not sure how to tease apart these programs. I feel like I've read everything on their websites. Any advice?

Would love to know if any practicing neurosurgeons here have had refractive laser eye surgery, or who know of any colleagues who have had it, and are willing to share their experiences/thoughts with it. Especially would love to hear about those who have had PRK corrective eye surgery.
