Anyone have textbooks that they recommend purchasing with the annual book fund that some residencies give? Interested in hearing about any textbooks that residents found to be particularly helpful towards their learning, whether they be about neuroanatomy, neurorads, spine, skull base, vascular, or any other neurosurgical sub-discipline

Does anyone feel like neurosurgery is the coolest thing about them? Was at a social event and found myself kind of disgusted by how much I felt I had to bring up neurosurgery. I guess it ties into our identity. But bringing it up to feel cool - Isn’t that the lamest thing ever? I worry that maybe I went into neurosurgery because I was a loser to begin with?

Hoping to sit for oral boards in November. Does it make any sense to go to the Goodman course in May if I haven't really started studying and haven't confirmed my test date?

Hey everyone!
Allegheny Health Network is holding a Neurosurgery Sub-I Prep Course to help medical students going into their sub-I's prepare for those challenging rotations. This will all be through zoom, with a focus on high yield information that can help you succeed, make a good impression, and evaluate the programs you are rotating at. Check out the flier below. This is open for all medical students and is completely free to anyone, not just AHN affiliated medical schools. The course will be two days long (Saturday and Sunday), from 8-noon both days. There is an April and May date to attend, so pick either one. Follow the survey monkey link below for registration information. Looking forward to seeing some of you all there!

| Spine and cranial.. possible to do both in academics? |

I’m at a crossroads where I’m not sure what to do. I love spine, cranial, and hell even vascular. But doing a spine fellowship (thinking MIS, deformity) along with endovascular and skull base (tumor and open vascular) doesn’t seem a good use of one’s time when ultimately you’ll be hired as the “vascular” or “spine” guy. Im worried if I pursue vascular for example I’ll hired on as mostly taking stroke call and in angio suite rather than doing open cases, especially spine. There is also the matter of turf wars among other attendings where it’s a big no no to “take” cases in their specialty whether it be spine , etc.
What do you guys think, am I trying to bite off more than I can chew when we live in an era of super sub-specialization?

I don’t see a match list sheet for this year. Did I miss the link?

Is this a new path for success in neurosurgery? I’m skeptical, but it seems like we’ve added or allowed a ‘fourth estate’ if you will. You can enter or advance in neurosurgery if you have a large social footprint.
Not a good development in my opinion.
