  Future of reimbursement
Posted by: Guest - 11-26-2023, 03:47 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (13)

https://thejns.org/view/journals/j-neuro...231513.xml

Anyone else getting sick of seeing Medicare slashed 3-5% a year, while reimbursement for everything besides physicians keeps up with inflation?

We will continue to become “more efficient” to keep up with these cuts, and a lot of that is good for patients, but we’ve all seen the surgeons that rush. When is it going to be too much?

prestigious medical schools vs full ride at a regular MD school w/o home program
Posted by: Guest - 11-22-2023, 01:01 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

happy thanksgiving everyone. so i got in to a medical school without a department of neurosurgery, this medical school also lets me have tuition free and also free textbooks, i still have to take loans to cover fees and living expenses. but everyone i talk to is like when it comes to neurosurgery, prestige of medical school matters especcially clinical curriculum and access to neurosurgeons in neurosurgery department. this medical school is a public school that does not have a department of neurosurgery, and also their dean likes to talk about "primary care" so i feel like i am lying for going there because i want to become a neurosurgeon, which is not primary care. i do not know what to do! i am still waiting on a decision from a school that is very well known and also has their own department of neurosurgery.

  Combined Peds + Adult Practice
Posted by: Guest - 11-19-2023, 07:29 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (4)

  1. How common is it to have a practice that is a combination of pediatrics and adults?
  2. Is such a practice mostly academic or private practice?
  3. What's the expected salary of a combined peds + adult?

Oregon call shifts only see 3-4 consults per shift. Why so low?
Posted by: Guest - 11-15-2023, 09:31 PM - Forum: General resident issues - Replies (1)

Relatively pointless paper has interesting insights into how busy a program is. Fewer than 4 consults per call shift. That is abnormally low with a very low acuity (0.3 emergent consults per shift). This is what our level 3 trauma center looks like, not a level 1

Could anyone offer their thoughts on this program? Benign or malignant program? Operative volume and autonomy? Hyde Park safety?

  Johns Hopkins vs Mayo Clinic
Posted by: Guest - 11-06-2023, 08:42 AM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (9)

Can someone compare these 2 programs? Trying to see which program to rank higher. Location isn't a factor for me. I'm interested in complex spine deformity.

Much appreciated.

Also, I was referring to Mayo Clinic-Rochester, specifically.

  Spine + endovascular training
Posted by: Guest - 11-04-2023, 12:44 PM - Forum: General resident issues - Replies (3)

I've heard of more outgoing residents doing specific training in both spine and endovascular with an eye toward being a private practice surgeon that can "do it all": that is, take out basic tumors, handle 95% of spine pathology that comes through the door, and take vascular call (+/- stroke call). What are your thoughts on how marketable a job applicant like this would be, and does it mean you're committing yourself to seriously onerous call out in practice?
