  Penn State 3+7
Posted by: Guest - 04-17-2020, 04:43 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (28)

As a current college student who wants to pursue neurosurgery, I was wondering how competitive the penn state 3+ 7 neurosurgery program is. Are there any numbers on how many people apply and how many ultimately get into the program? I have about 1000 hours of total medical exposure (research, volunteering, shadowing, etc), mcat 518-520, and a 4.0. A current junior. Stay safe

  Arizona programs

With the Scottsdale/Phoenix area having three programs now (Mayo, Barrow, UA Banner), how will this impact the volume and experience at each?

Thank you!

Feel free to share. Let me know if there are any obvious errors.  I take no responsibility for some of the oddly labeled structures (e.g. why the trigeminal nerve is sometimes only highlighted as the preganglionic segment and other times includes all three branches, etc…).

Home neurosurgery department without residency program
Posted by: Guest - 04-15-2020, 01:43 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (12)

Hi all,

MD student at a state school that has a neurosurgery department but does not have a neurosurgery residency program. We have a track record of successfully matching students into neurosurgery. I have LORs from neurosurgery faculty but they are not widely known within academic neurosurgery due to the lack of a home residency program.

With the uncertainty in away rotations, where does this situation put me in terms of needing aways + letters from notable faculty to have a chance at matching? My Step 1 and # of publications are above average for neurosurgery on the Charting Outcomes page.

Thanks, and I hope everybody is staying safe.

  Learning coding/reimbursement

Attendings, how do you recommend learning any coding / reimbursement nuances we should know before starting a first job?  Books, courses, something online?  I heard about learning this throughout my training but nobody told me how.

  Forced Resign - Reapply
Posted by: NeurosurgeryDream - 04-12-2020, 02:46 PM - Forum: Job openings - Replies (18)

Has anyone ever been forced to resign mid residency and then found a spot at another program?  Are there ways to improve oneself to become a better applicant.  Or is forced resignation pretty much career ending.

This forum has so much potential to be genuinely helpful, but is instead filled with trolls and spam. Is it possible to require an account to post, so that people can be held marginally accountable for the things they say here?

  Neurosurgery Topic Review
Posted by: toxoplasmabartonella - 04-07-2020, 04:24 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Hi all!

I am MS3 who is planning on applying to Neurosurgery this upcoming cycle. I am honored to pursue such an amazing field filled with so many giants who have paved the way in this innovative field and others who are incredibly passionate about their work.

I am wondering if there is anyone else here who wants to go over some neurosurgical topics covered in Greenberg and elsewhere. I have so much to learn and could really use a buddy or a mentor during this journey. I am thinking about a zoom meeting once a week... Journal club format? I am open to any ideas.

I am thankful for this community. I hope you and all your loved ones are staying safe during this pandemic.
