  Vascular ties in Neurosurgery
Posted by: MelioraBME95 - 02-09-2020, 07:10 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

I observed a resection of Primary Brachial Plexus Tumor via a Supraclavicular Approach and notices the physician used vascular ties to retract and position vessels - specifically the brachial plexus  C7 nerve root at the middle trunk of the brachial plexus.

The physician then used a hemostat to clamp the distal ends of the vascular ties to the surgical drapes. Is this standard? What other approaches do Neurosurgeons use to manage vascular ties? That seems a bit like an "OR hack".

  West Coast Best Rotations?
Posted by: Guest - 02-03-2020, 02:52 PM - Forum: Sub-internships - Replies (6)

M3 on the east coast looking to apply to a sub-I out west in order to expand application geographically.

I've heard Barrow, UCSF, and UW are notable programs. Are there any other west coast programs I should be considering in terms of student experience and letters of recommendation?

  Doing functional AND spine??
Posted by: 1322 - 02-01-2020, 01:00 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (2)

Is is possible for (community vs academic) neurosurgeons to do a mix of functional and spine? I'm an M2 potentially interested in functional, but don't necessarily want to end up at a major academic center, where there would be enough volume to exclusively just do those cases.
