Hi,
If I were to pursue a PhD and become a neurosurgeon would I predominantly have to do research?
Would I be able to have a 80% percent surgery and 20% research lifestyle? I have Heard that it’s typically 70% research and 30% surgery. I love research and would love it to be imbedded into my career.
Thanks

I am looking for fellowship training opportunities that can be completed during residency. Is anyone aware of programs offering fellowships like this at their institution for residents from other hospitals? Thanks

Hi,
I am a student who is interested in neurosurgery. If you wouldn't mind, can you let me know with the following stats, how many interviews you think I'd get if I applied to all of the programs listed on ERAS.
I got to Ohio State(so i have a home program) and am a top 25%student.
step 1: 252
step 2:258
I have 5 publications, none of which are basic science, but 1 of them is a first author pub and 2 are 3rd author. I also have 4 presentations.
I had mostly honors during clinicals, probably 85%
I'd say my LORs are pretty good
Thank you
P.S. I had seen a post similar to this on the forum from an apparent high schooler but actually feel like an amount of interviews id receive would be a good measurement of how competitive of an applicant I'd be.

Is it true that programs will refuse to rank you, or rank you lower, if you decline to tell them that your ranking them first? I'm hoping to get feedback from people who actually participate in this process and know the answer.
To make it explicit: program B likes student 1 best. Student 1 likes A best, and tells them so. Meanwhile, student 2 likes B best, and tells them so.
Who does B rank higher: 1 or 2?

We've all heard that Mitch Berger writes an extremely short letter of recommendation, but includes a code word which indicates the level of his approval. How common is this? Is it restricted to just a few institutions, or is it universal?

Hey all, first time poster here.
I am a G1 MD/PhD student at a top-10 US MD school.
Just received my step 1 results and my score ended up being 18 pts lower vs my NBME average or UWSAs, I ended up with a 247, which I know isn't a bad score per se, but..
I am interested in academic, research-heavy programs that tend to be more competitive, even for neurosurgery.
I am not 100% for neurosurgery just yet (still have to finish my PhD to get to clinical years), but my question is: is 247 going to negatively affect my ability to match into top programs? I am interested in academic, research-heavy programs that tend to be more competitive, even for neurosurgery.
Will be glad to hear anyone's experience on this, thanks!
Oops, sorry for double posting that sentence.

| Choosing Research Interest? |

How do you go about selecting an area of research you are interested in making a career out of? There are so many different research topics and it seems so difficult to know what specific area you are passionate about when you are so early in your neurosurgery career. I have always talked with physicians and just worked on their projects. My ideas for projects always seem to be too simple and all of my ideas have already been done.
Now that I am on away rotations, I have been getting a lot of questions about what research I am interested in, and I just say something along the lines of a project I have done. Deep down, I really don't have any idea and struggling to figure out how to make it to the next step.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
