Posted by: Guest - 11-21-2017, 12:30 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (4)

What residencies do and do not allow moonlighting and what is the pay? I know Pitt has a 5-10pm call where you can get paid and barrow let’s be you moonlight similarly. Where else? What about the academic places as well?

  Jeff vs. Penn
Posted by: Guest - 11-15-2017, 09:25 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (26)

Can someone break down Jefferson vs. Penn and the reasons for picking one over the other? I can’t do a sub-I at both due to the regional bias thing. What are the big pros and cons and major differences? Who has the most volume? Thanks guys

What counts as basic research in neurosurgery?
Posted by: 11262729NSG - 11-13-2017, 06:55 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (16)

I am an M1 who'd like to get involved in some basic science research. I read that neurosurgery research > other research, but what exactly counts as basic research in neurosurgery? Does it necessarily have to be limited to basic science research done in our home program's neurosurgery department?

Apologies in advance if this is a poor question.

  step2 for rank?
Posted by: Guest - 11-11-2017, 12:35 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (19)

any idea which programs need step 2 ck for rank?

I was supposed to take step 2 this week but due to family emergencies I had to cancel and I won't be able to take it until later. I did well on step 1 so I guess i was wondering which programs need step 2ck for rank? I prob won't be able to study much so i anticipate my score to not be that great.

any help is appreciated

Hello,
My name is Rakesh and I am a doctor from India. I graduated from rank 3 medical school in India and being top of my class. i talked to my professor about good place to do neurosurgery and he recommended USA. We have some of our alumni students in general surgery and even neurosurgery in america. One went to Univ of Washington in Seattle, One is at Wanye State University in Detroit, one is at University of Pittsburg's medical hospital.
I have some training in india in family practice and rural practice. I take USMLE 1st Step this summer and got 95th percentile and 256 out of 280.
My step 2 written exam is in 2 weeks. How can I be a very strong candidate for my residency in america.

please guide me. I would like advice.

Thank you very much

Jai shree krishna and god bless all my friends here

  Duke?
Posted by: Rotator - 11-10-2017, 09:41 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (12)

Can anyone who has interviewed/spent time at Duke recently please shed some light on the program? I'm trying to plan my Sub Is for this summer and it would be a great location for my family. I've heard really mixed things though - some people say it's on a great trajectory with really strong research and receptive faculty. Some other people say it's pretty malignant (supposedly they fired one of their PGY-4s a few years back for no reason and he had to finish at another program?) Really hard to separate the truth from the rumors.

Star Chill/Laid back programs
Posted by: Guest - 11-09-2017, 08:34 AM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (11)

Which programs out there would people say are pretty bro? And when I say bro, I don’t necessarily mean all dudes. I mean somewhat laid back with cool residents that are collegial, get out together, aren’t super nerdy, like sports, etc. Just looking for a really chill group.

any data about where in their list folks matched?
Posted by: Guest - 11-05-2017, 05:19 AM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (6)

Is there any data out there about where in their rank list people tend to match? I'm getting the feeling that putting a place lower than 1st (and therefore not being able to tell them they are first) kind of kills your chances there but i'm not sure if that's real.
