I recently got my step 1 score back and did very poorly, 226.  I don't finish 3rd year until July and I am debating on going to subI's in July, Aug, Sept vs Step 2 in July and sub i Aug, Sept, Oct.  

Any one with a low Step 1 this year and high Step 2 getting interviews.  I feel that Step 1 determines your interview invites, so if I get screened by Step 1 it doesn't matter anyway right.  I figure the only way I'll get an interview is with a sub i (great research and on a path to AOA).

Look at the situation, my below average neurosurg Step score got me facin'
I can't live a normal life, I was raised in luxury
So I gotta be down with the spine surgeons

If one wanted the best chance to match at Barrow, should he or she do a sub-I there? I don't know anything about how much love they give their rotators. All I know is a lot of people rotate through.

I have had a number of messages regarding the overall tone, and some specific foul language used on this forum recently.

Our goal here is to enable free exchange of ideas and information.  The upside of anonimity is it allows people to speek freely.  The downside is they may say things we would rather not hear.

With that in mind, please keep it professional.  Anyone from middle school students to tenured professors and chairmen to government officials read these posts.  Yes, we all feel immature sometimes, no, the interview invite notice thread is not the place to do it. 

If it helps you to decide if you should post, imagine at your birthday (in front of your gram gram) or every interview you have, you are given a list of your post history and you have to read them out loud.

A new thread -- it would be nice to keep this one to simply sharing dates so that we can all try to make as many interviews as possible.  Neurosurgery is a privilege and I've been nothing but impressed by my co-subinterns as well as the other applicants I've met over the past couple months; this is no doubt a stressful and imperfect process, but let's try and keep things positive and professional!

I really really want to go into neurosurgery. I got a 240 on my step one, and all honors in my clerkships so far (I am currently a third year). I have two publications (one in cardiothoracic surgery, one in cardiology). I've also done three poster presentations. I think if I commit to the idea of doing neurosurgery now, I could get  some NS research in during my third year. My question is do I 

A) have a chance, and should go for it
B) have a chance, but should take a year off and do more research to make up for the sub par step one
C) have a chance, but should apply to a gen surg back up 
D) don't have a chance, and should give up now

I guess I'm discouraged because in 2014 the NS avg was 244 where I think I would have a decent chance, but now the latest data from 2016 has it at a 249. Also I have no home program and don't come from a top 40 med school.

Any known programs with interesting interviews (lego building, soap carving, pimp questions, etc.) that people have heard about?

Thought I would start a thread where people could post about their experiences on SubIs  this year. Would be incredibly helpful to hear as the interviews start to come in!
