  Hobbies on Eras
Posted by: Guest - 09-24-2023, 08:25 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Anyone putting hobbies for the eras experiences? How many is too many? Most of my activities were concentrated into a few experiences throughout medical school so it is a bit of a struggle to make 10 experiences.

  Info on BWH
Posted by: Guest - 08-02-2023, 11:41 AM - Forum: General interest - Replies (6)

Hey guys, was just wondering if people could provide some input on BWH as a program for residents. How well does it prepare the residents for the various subspecialties in neurosurgery? How are the faculty mentors for the different sub-specialties and would you be set up strongly for a career in either academics or private practice if you go there? What are general thoughts on the culture, operative autonomy, and relative perception in relation to say a highly academic program like Penn, MGH versus more clinically-focused programs? Just trying to guage on which part of the spectrum it is with regards that question.

  Programs with less research emphasis
Posted by: Guest - 07-24-2023, 06:09 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (3)

Does anyone know of programs that place less emphasis on an applicants research portfolio when applying? I understand that having at least some research is critical but I am wondering if there are programs where a little research is enough to check the box. thanks!

  Adopted Home Program
Posted by: guest10000 - 07-18-2023, 05:26 PM - Forum: Sub-internships - Replies (2)

I go to a school without a home program. According to the SNS guidelines, one sub-i should be at the most closely affiliated ACGME accredited program. If our school doesn't have any affiliated program, how do I know which institution to apply to for a sub-i?

  MSPE Adjectives
Posted by: Guest - 07-15-2023, 07:02 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (43)

Does the adjectives used in MSPE's matter.

My school uses words like "excellent", "very good", "outstanding" etc
and then gives a breakdown of how to earn those adjectives.

Does this shit even matter to PDs? Cause my preclinical grades were shit

  Peds spine
Posted by: Guest - 07-15-2023, 06:14 PM - Forum: Practice patterns - Replies (6)

Junior resident growing interested in peds spine. Ideally would like to make this a part of a future peds practice.

1) From what I have seen, typically dominated by ortho. Is this just a training issue? (Ortho typically does peds spine fellowships?) Can neuro get in on the fun with fellowship or is this a political issue?

2) Is compensation more peds or more spine?

3) Possible to do this alongside peds or is it its own thing?

Any other guidance welcome.

Hey all,

Would love to hear input on UVA, in terms of sub-i or residency. Is the program still a stalwart program or is it slowly decliningAny ideas on strengths and weaknesses of subspecialties

Thanks,
