Any thoughts on Herhsey's neurosurgery program? Like the area, had an opportunity to speak with some current students/residents/attendings and liked all of my interactions. Seems like a decent program I would be happy at. Harbaugh stepping down is sad but he seems like he deserves it and I felt confident in the attends I spoke with.

How best to study neuroanatomy for sub-internships? I know about Rhoton, neurosurgical atlas, etc but these seem clunky and it's so hard to learn anatomy from static images which are often disorienting. Any recommendations?

I read here on https://radiologyassistant.nl/musculoske...sification that on the TLICS grading scale, a distraction injury always involves the posterior ligamentous complex (PLC) and therefore by definition is surgical (4 pts for morphology + 3 pts for PLC involvement)

However, the AO classification system has a Type B3 distraction-hyperextension category that does not seem (at least on the illustrations, attached below) to involve the PLC

Can anyone provide clarification on this?

I have the opportunity to work on 3 possible research interests for Fall medical school (MS1). Which one is best for neurosurgery residency? Thank you so much!

1. Machine learning-- My first choice. Here, I will work with a computer science PI (PhD) who develops deep learning models (software) that reads PET/CT images for lung and esophageal cancers. Basically, this software is working to read the images to identify cancer and disease. He hopes to expand to brain tumors but of course that depends on funding etc. I would help with programming and imaging (so I might read the images myself and then teach the software. PI publishes in low-impact journals. 
   
2. Bench lab research. PhD, cell signaling. HOWEVER, a GREAT PI. Getting some good funding, and EXCELLENT journals. Think Cell.
   
3. Bioinformatics--pretty traditional. Work with statistics PhD to use databases to do stastical analysis on patient outcomes, as well as genomic (using NCBI and other databases to compare protein/DNA sequences and the like). PI publishes in low-impact journals, but I think can churn out posters/crappy papers.

Anyone have any general pearls in distinguishing the superior vermian vein from the precentral/vein of the cerebellomesencephalic fissure?

I keep confusing the two in images.

Cartoon below implies superior vermian runs more dorsally over the vermis, but then the labeled rhoton/Cohen image subsequently labels the vessel as precentral

I'm an MS3 interested in an academic path in neurosurgery but also want to be well-trained technically after completing my residency. I have seen many disparaging comments with regards to MGH in previous threads but was hoping that someone could provide a more nuanced, honest and updated appraisal of what neurosurgical training at Mass General would be like?
