Are there any young faculty who are distinguishing/making a name for themselves?

thoughts on importance of peripheral nerve training? Seems to be a growing field that not many programs have good representation in, on the other hand it's not terribly sexy and there's competition from multiple other specialties (ortho, plastics).

  Best residency for peds?

Which residencies train the best pediatric neurosurgeons? Obviously fellowship plays a big role, but do residencies at institutions affiliated with top children's hospitals (Boston, CHOP, Cincinnati) necessarily produce the best peds neurosurgeons? Specific programs please.

Impact of medical school name on residency selection
Posted by: Guest - 07-11-2017, 10:41 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (16)

Hello,

I am a rising M1 student at a top 40 medical school and am interested in neurosurgery. While this website has affirmed the idea that neurosurgery is self-selecting, I have developed an interest in the field as a result of my working in a peds nsg lab throughout undergrad and working with the PI, fellows, and residents who rotate through our lab. My question is, since I do not go to a top 10 medical school, am I at a disadvantage for top academic residencies even if I have similar scores/grades/research/AOA  an Ivy League applicant? Thanks.

  Top Programs for Spinal Work/Research
Posted by: omegalomaniac - 07-10-2017, 09:52 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (32)

What are your thoughts on the best residencies for training spinal surgeons? Of course, spine is a major component of neurosurgery and thus is a huge focus of every program, but I wonder if any programs have particular strengths in/are well known for spine specifically, either clinically speaking or in terms of research.

  Programs without research years/requirement?
Posted by: Guest - 07-09-2017, 11:36 PM - Forum: General interest - Replies (3)

So I'm really into the operative aspect of neurosurgery but don't plan on going into academia. I realize that all residency programs are 7 years with 2 built in research years. Are there any programs that don't have research requirements and will allow you to just operate or do an infolded fellowship during those years?

  Late Subi
Posted by: Guest - 07-02-2017, 06:05 PM - Forum: Sub-internships - Replies (9)

I have a subi scheduled for October. I wanted to know if there is any point of getting a letter of recommendation from this subi at that point as it will be mid interview season by the time the recommender would be able to complete the letter?

Step 2 CS During subi or late
Posted by: Guest - 07-02-2017, 12:16 PM - Forum: USMLE - Replies (3)

I currently have step 2 CS scheduled for a day on my away subinternship in September, there are no other available dates until December which will be interview season and I would thus not get my results till after rankings programs. Is it a big taboo to miss a day on subi for this test, as I don't see I have many other options?
