  Step 2 CK for Interviews
Posted by: Trigger - 10-16-2017, 10:21 PM - Forum: On the trail - Replies (15)

Hey everyone,

I am still confused about how Step 2 CK is used in the application process. My PD seems to think that ~15-20 programs require a score to send you an interview (ie. there is an algorithm in place that will screen out applications that lack a score). However, it seems like many on these forums, if not most, are getting lots of interviews without having a score available.

That said, would people mind listing the schools they've received interviews from without having a Step 2 CK score in their application? I'll start by listing a few schools I'm interested in following the order of the list on the Interview Invites thread.

Indiana
University of Florida
Houston Methodist
University of Virginia
Baylor
Tulane
UAB
Duke
Arkansas
LSU New Orleans
Kentucky
LSU Shreveport
Oklahoma
Wake Forest
UNC
University of Miami
University of Mississippi
Carolinas Med Center
WashU
Vanderbilt
UT Southwestern
University of South Florida
Mayo Clinic Jacksonville

Thanks everyone!

Past October 15th, Time to Panic?
Posted by: ihatemyself - 10-16-2017, 10:20 AM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (4)

Well, it's October 16th.  How many interviews should one theoretically be at to feel comfortable now and not be panicking?  What the threshold to start talking to your PD or chairman about other options?

If my counting is correct about 70% of programs have now invited.

  Brown University Program

It seems like there have been a lot of changes lately at Brown with faculty coming up from Hopkins. Did anyone do a sub-I there this year?

Now that this will be an MD program, has anyone rotated through here? Or heard anything about it?

  Pimp Questions
Posted by: bregma - 10-12-2017, 10:29 AM - Forum: Sub-internships - Replies (14)

Anyone care to share some examples of pimp questions you’ve had? Or best sources to prepare a knowledge base for sub-i’s?

I have no clue whether they will be simple or obscure or about research or anatomy. I read Greenberg casually when I have some free time but not sure if that’s the level should be aiming for.

How common is it for academic neurosurgeons to do basic research?

How common is it for academic neurosurgeons to do basic research? For the ones that do own a lab, what's the usual split between operating time, clinic, and basic research?

Did anyone do a sub-I at Kentucky? I have an interview invite from there, was wondering what your experience was. Thanks.
