How to Increase Chances of Matching into Academic Program
Posted by: Guest - 08-20-2017, 05:31 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - No Replies

Saw another thread on number of programs to apply to. Figured its a good question to ask as well

Step 1: 242
Average medical school
13 pubs, 18 combined pubs/presentations/posters
All honors in 3rd year

What should I be looking at in number of programs? Named NE programs out of the question (BWH/Penn)?

  Two Sub-Is, same city
Posted by: Guest - 08-20-2017, 03:50 PM - Forum: Sub-internships - Replies (6)

Hi all,

I'm an MS3 at a Midwest MD school with a S.O in NYC. Step 1 ~260 , will probably make AOA, with 3 publications (1 first author, 2 second author). I am hoping to do three Sub-Is: One at NYU, one at NYP-Cornell or Mount Sinai, and perhaps another northeastern program like Jefferson or Penn. Would doing two aways in the same city hurt my application geographically outside of places in the Northeast? Should I only do one away in NYC?

  How many programs to apply
Posted by: schools - 08-17-2017, 07:51 PM - Forum: How to prep for applications - Replies (18)

I wanted to get a general idea of how many schools I should apply to. Any advice from residents/prior applicants? Here are my stats:

Step1: 256
Total abstracts/pubs/posters: 4-5, mostly NSG related
average med school, no home program

  ABNS Scores and Percentiles
Posted by: Guest - 08-17-2017, 01:13 PM - Forum: ABNS - Replies (31)

I hear residents talk about scores in 300ish or 400ish zone, but they don't talk about percentiles. Any good estimation for percentiles from raw scores? What is the raw score cutoff to pass?

  USC?

Anyone with any insights on USC recently? Have my sights set on the west coast and looking for a program with heavy operative experience. Have only heard good things but looking for some more opinions.

How do your programs decide who gets their requested vacation? Seniority or first come first serve?

Basically as the title says. Just wondering if these are updated regularly or if they’re old and outdated. Thanks!

I've got a mint copy of the newest edition of Greenberg, no writing/highlighting/dog-eared pages.

Asking $80 shipped. Shoot me a PM if interested. I can also provide pics to confirm condition.
